Muduma

Take a day trip out of the city to breathe fresh air and smell the roses, literally!

If you were blindfolded and dropped in Muduma, you would be forgiven for thinking you are perhaps 300 or 400 km out of Kampala due to the forest cover, quiet and neat village setting, and the amazingly fresh and clean air.

Description

An easy 18km (we actually mean that…. easy!), one can be back from the hike in time for lunch and relaxation at the camp ground.

The hike takes on a round trip starting at the campsite at Buyongo, then moves through the villages of Mawugulu, Jimbi, Magala, Kikwabanga, Bwereje, Walukono, Buzimwa – Katuuso and back to Buyongo.

Trip Highlights

  • Day trip from Kampala
  • 18 km of fresh air, beautiful flowers, rolling hills and eucalyptus plantations

The hike starts at a campsite in Buyongo, 40km from the General Post Office. At the point of exiting Northern bypass towards Bulenga/ Buloba, one will cover 34km before branching off the main road, and then 6km on a gravel road.

Following a hearty breakfast, we recommend starting the hike from the campsite at 8.30 am.

Need to know

This is a relatively easy hike, but as always, do try to wear comfortable shoes made for walking – hiking shoes or good running shoes will both work.

We also recommend camping at the beautiful and relaxing Lakes of Grace Resort, where we stayed when doing this hike in 2021. Initially started as a fish farm and weekend escape from the hustle and bustle of Kampala, it has since been converted into a beautiful recreational water body that is surrounded by green gardens and lush camping grounds.
